CELEBRATING TAGORE – AN EXHIBITION DEBATE

On 10th May, IVWS organised an exhibition debate with top debaters from different city schools, that happened with the students of Grades VIII and IX as audience, in a packed auditorium. Celebrating Tagore, the motion read-This house believes the commercialisation of education and art goes against the principles of Rabindranath Tagore. The debate was moderated by ace debater now journalist Priyam Marick. Side proposition had Mohana Sengupta from Modern High School for Girls, Vidhan Sharma and Ushnish Bhattacharya from St. James’ School while the opposition was represented by Akash Roy and Aritra Mookherjee of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School and Akshita Mundhra of Loreto House. The school leaving batch of ace debaters from the city circuit enthralled the audience by their wit, clarity and confidence. It was indeed a delight to hear them pick holes in each other’s arguments and win over the audience. The motion was carried with overwhelming majority by a vote from the audience at the end.
