On 9 August 2019, the Earth Reel team of 5 students from Class IX of Indus Valley World School had been invited to participate in the award ceremony of Earth Reel 2019 by Earth Day network in collaboration with Bichitra Pathshala. Their film HORNS OF PARADISE made over a period of two months had been shortlisted in the Best film category (Seniors). The auditorium was full of students from different schools from Kolkata and its suburbs.
The ceremony started with the welcome speech by Mr. Pradeep Chopra, Chairman of ILead who spoke on why biodiversity is essential for our environment. He was followed by Mr. S.V.Raman who spoke on the importance of taking baby steps to save the species. After his motivational speech Mrs. Karuna Singh, the country director of Earth Day network mentioned the immense value of student’s participation in the success of Earth Reel programme.
A total of seventeen short listed films were showcased for the panel of judges comprising Dr. Anjan Sarkar, Dr. Pradeep Vyas and Dr. Tiasha Ahalya. Every film was followed by a question and answer session between the students and the judges. The results were declared where the film ‘HORNS OF PARADISE’ was declared Runners-Up in the Senior category ( Classes IX-XII). This is indeed no mean achievement for our students Anargha Pal, Moodita Dasgupta, Shreyas Kishore Das, Rebecca Chakravarti and Aaryash Roy.
